Born and raised in East Orange, Pat lived in Bloomfield for 48 years and in West Caldwell for the past 3 years. She lived life for her family and adored her 10 grandchildren.

Patsy grew up in East Orange, N.J. and attended Holy Name Grammar School, St. Michael's High School, Clifford J. Scott High School and Upsala College. She was employed as an Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of MTS Travel for 18 years, and then for Ken Dietz Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning Co. She was able to continue working despite her sudden visual impairment in 2008. Patsy was proud and steeped in her Irish roots. Her mother and father taught her and her siblings about their Irish heritage and culture by teaching them wonderful songs of Ireland and Irish dancing with the Peggy Smith School of Irish Dancing for many years. The "Darcy Five" were well known for being a unique family of three sisters and two brothers who danced at Irish events throughout New York and New Jersey. At the age of 28 in 1972, she was Deputy Grand Marshal of the Newark St. Patrick's Day Parade and held the record for being the youngest to hold such a position. She was involved with EIES of New Jersey and was a member and executive board member of the Women of Irish Heritage, the Irish American Society of Oranges, and the Frank McGovern Association. Patricia was honored as Irish Woman of the Year of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in 1992, the Irish American society of the Oranges in 1994 and the Frank McGovern Association in 2007.

Patricia's love and dedication to Project Children since 1981 resulted in 11 children hosted from Northern Ireland over 15 years. Those children thought of Pat as their American mom and said those were the best summers of their lives. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Patricia's memory can be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation and St. John's Soup Kitchen in Newark.

She was predeceased by her father Frank Darcy and her mother Catherine Morley Darcy and sister Mary McGovern. Pat is survived by her former husband Robert M. Ruane, her daughter Kathleen Ruane-Przyhocki and her husband Joe, son Robert and wife Mary, daughter Noreen and her husband Mat Zemel. She was a devoted "Dappa" to her 10 adored grandchildren; Emma, Caila and Lea Przyhocki, Ciara, Noelle, and Robbie Ruane and Charlotte, Julia, Sarah and Trey Zemel.
She was the sister of Frank Darcy Jr. and his wife Kathie, Eileen Herbert and her husband Pat, Brian Darcy and his wife Cindy and the late Kathleen Darcy and Mary McGovern. She was sister in law of Eamonn McGovern, Patrick Ruane, Katherine Ruane Manning and Michael Ruane. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
